Well hello..... welcome to my blog! My name is Scarlett and im an official fundraising representative of Greyhound Gap http://www.greyhoundgap.com. Although my profile says im really 20 years old ssshhhh im not but blogger wouldnt let me keep you up to speed with my adventures if I didnt tell a little bit of a porky. Us bears are ladies and its not fitting for me to tell you my real age.
This blog is too keep track of my fundraising efforts in aid of the pointies that find themselves in emergency situations landing in the care of Greyhound Gap.
Behind all this are two very special people. Lucy is just 6 years of age and wanted to do something to help raise funds in the memory of a very special lady Elaine Parkes. Elaine was very special in two ways, she was a vibrant unique fun loving lady and also Lucy's Mum Heidi's best friend.
Sadly recently at just 47 years of age Lainy lost her fight against cancer. Lainy adopted both of her dog's from Greyhound Gap and the charity and the hounds themselves were both close to her heart.
In Memory of Lainy and also to help special needs emergency dogs the Elaine Parkes Memorial Fund is being created.
So why am I Scarlett? Well the day after we sadly lost Elaine a VERY special little 6 week old puppy crossed the path of the rescue. Lucky events over the 24hrs before and the day that Elaine left us brought Scarlett into the rescue's care. Scarlett's needs were so great that her costs within 6 days mounted to a huge £2000 and medical care is still ongoing. Although the rescue's fundraisers worked hard all Summer this amount paid directly straight out to the vet hospital drained their resources. With a special fund and money set aside this means that dogs like Scarlett can receive the necessary treatment without taking away from the other dogs needing the help that Greyhound Gap provide.
Scarlett bear will be travelling for what already looks like nearly the next 2 years!!
A message from Scarlett Bear herself...... I am honoured that in the Memory of Elaine so many people are willing to welcome me into their home, share their holidays, their life and their special occasions with me.
Each home that takes Scarlett in for a week's period will be contributing the sum of £5 to the Elaine Parkes Memorial Fund.
Scarlett will continue to travel for as long as the demand is kept up. Each location will add their own blog updates during Scarlett's stay with them and she will leave each location with a postcard of the area filled in by her Guardian's to take to her next family.
Once Scarlett is done travelling and we hope that wont be for a long time yet she will be heading home to join Lucy permanantly. Greyhound Gap WILL be sending Lucy adoption forms and making her legal..... so unlike so many other bears and hounds out there little Scarlett Bear is ALREADY lucky enough to be guaranteed her own sofa and special little girl to love and cherish her for the rest of her life.
Please keep checking back for regular updates..... Scarlett's adventures will begin next week when the dreaded postal strike ends and she will start her journey with time with Lucy. I believe one of Scarlett's first visits will be with a family who are planning on taking her on vacation to Disneyland.... every little bears dream.
Keep watching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
